Background In Ukraine, teachers have always played a critical role — but during the war, public attention shifted to soldiers, rescuers, and energy workers. Over time, even teachers themselves began to underestimate the value of what they do. Global Teacher Prize Ukraine, which has spent a decade celebrating outstanding educators, set out to change that. Challenge Remind both Ukrainian society and teachers themselves just how vital the teaching profession is today. Idea For the 10th anniversary of the prize, we built the campaign around a single metaphor: light. Teachers may stay in the background, but they shine from within — illuminating the path for their students for years to come. The campaign message: Teachers shine. We amplify their light. This positions teachers at the center of the story, with the prize as their supporter and partner. Solution The campaign operated on two levels — restoring teachers' sense of self-worth, and making society recognize their value. At its core was a social film, "The Light for Teachers," built around a social experiment. We invited teachers to a studio under the pretense of discussing various professions. Each was asked to guess the profession based on descriptions we'd prepared — framed as different roles like protector, psychologist, leader, rescuer. Most assumed the descriptions were about someone else. Then came the reveal: a mirror hidden behind the screen. The moment teachers saw their own reflection, they realized every description had been about them — and the emotional impact was immediate. The film captured a simple truth: a teacher is never just one thing. It launched across social media and television, helping a country at war see — and helping teachers see in themselves — the light they've been carrying all along.
